Florence and Alec Yule Memorial Scholarship

The Florence and Alec Yule Memorial Scholarship was generously gifted by Florence Maud Wagstaff in memory of her husband, John Sandison Yule, and their son who died in infancy. The fund supports graduates of the Uniting Church Theological College (now Pilgrim) to engage in postgraduate theological studies at an international University.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Graduate of Pilgrim Theological College 
  • To be “of sterling character” and to have displayed qualities suitable for a minister
  • Acceptance into an overseas postgraduate theological degree (such as Masters, Grad Cert, DMin, or PhD)

Rev. Alister Pate

Alister is the current recipient of the Yule Scholarship. He is working on a missiology PhD at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, asking - Why do people return to church?

Alister is a Uniting Church Minister currently serving part-time in the Northcote Congregation.

Rev. Associate Professor Kylie Crabbe

The Yule Scholarship supported Kylie to undertake a PhD at Oxford University on Luke/Acts (2017). Her thesis was published in 2019 as Luke/Acts and the End of History.  

Kylie is a Senior Research Fellow at Australian Catholic University in the Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry. 

Pilgrim Theological College

Dr Martin Wright

Martin did his PhD at Durham University (2018) on Ephesians and the Pauline Corpus. This was later published as The Dividing Wall.  

Martin is an independent scholar living in the UK.

Rev. Associate Professor Robyn Whitaker

Robyn completed her PhD at the University of Chicago Divinity School in 2014. Her thesis on the Book of Revelation was titled, "Seeing God: Ekphrasis, Vision, and Persuasion in John's Apocalypse" subsequently published with Mohr Siebeck as Ekphrasis, Vision, and Persuasion (2015). 

Robyn has taught at Princeton Theological Seminary, Union Seminary in New York, Trinity College Melbourne, and is now on the faculty at Pilgrim.

Rev. Dr Upweh Ting

Upweh completed his PhD in 2005 at STTIP Jakarta (Sekolah Tinggi Teologi International Philadelphia) on the topic ‘Cross Cultural Ministry is the fulfilment of missional mandate in the areas of Church Unity and Growth’.

He currently serves as the International Partnerships Manager for Uniting World.
